The shoe-shaped birdhouses are featured at Janury edition of ecocolo, an eco-lifestyle Japanese paper based magazine.

My latest movie Drive-thru will have its Norwegian premier at Tromsø International Film Festival as part of 'Films from the North' program.

A feature by Peter Merrington was published at Nabroad about my residency at ISIS Arts in Newcastle (October-November 2011) where I worked with Ballast Plants to map landscape challenges and migration movements in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK.

The Birdhouse Project was published in Designboom and soon will appear in design specialized magazines in China and Israel.

Drive-thru will have its Norwegian premiere in January as part of Films from the North program at Tromsø International Film Festival 2012

The shortfilm Dear Neighbor was screened 7-9 October at Pera Museum, Istanbul, Turkey, thanks to Instituto Cervantes de España.

The Birdhouse Project has been featured in several magazines specialized in design and environmental issues, such as Inhabitat, among others, and in several languages as Portuguese, Italian and will be appearing in paper based magazines in both, UK and Japan.

As part of my ongoing residency at ISIS Arts in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK, I had a presentation last 26th October. While on residency I'll be working with ballast plants that arrived by accident in Northumberland region by the ballast that was used by cargo ships in previous centuries, as part of the coal, glass and pottery industries.

The installation 'Borettslaget fuglesko' has been demounted, after it was exhibited between Abril-September in Lillehammer, Norway. Six birdhouses shaped like shoes, were placed hanging from power lines in order to offer a temporarily housing solution to migratory birds.

The picture shows a nest that was build inside one of the shoes.

It was also demounted 'Arise' an installation placed in front of the Munch Museum, Oslo, Norway between August and October, as part of the exhibition (Dis)Placement.

My movie 'Drive-thru' will be part of VAD 2011 (6-15 October) in Girona, Spain.

ARISE a site-specific installation openend as part of (DIS)placement, 20th August-02th October, an exhibition by Norsk Billedhoggerforening

ARISE is a site-specific piece that recalls a dike, a levee, a structure build to content floods or maybe a defense emplacement, a barricade, a check point.

A pile of sandbags irrupts the landscape, a horizontal line above the ground lifted up to make a mark: a statement to contemporary situation in Oslo, where the relocalization of Munchs and Stenersen Museums, together with the Deichmanske Library and the National Museum in Vestbanen are urbanistic and political decisions that will gather Oslo’s main cultural institutions in a single neighborhood.

ARISE attempts to create a debate about Oslo’s east side cultural landscape. After the defeat over Munchs Museum, is this part of town depleted of cultural institutions? Or was it just a loss over its single tourist attraction? At Oslo’s east there are ateliers and some lively neighborhoods with their own galleries, museums and botanical gardens, but still there is a lack of a hub for culture and arts in this part of town, and even for the whole Groruddalen valley.

ARISE proposes the raise of a cornerstone, a foundation stone for a future scenario. While at the same time it points out to the lack of economical resources and political will to create a solid and permanent structure (institution) in Oslo’s east, where almost two-thirds of Oslo’s inhabitants have their homes.

The exhibition will be held open from 20th August-02 October 2011. ARISE will be demounted between 01.09-08.09 for maintenance.

I've been invited to take a research residency at ISIS Arts in Newcastle, England. The residency will be in October-November 2011. There I'll map the exotic plants that arrived to Newcastle's port by ballast in cargo ships during previous centuries as a metaphor of current migration movements. The proposal was chosen among 99 international applications.

The 7th Athens Video Art Festival 2011 will screen Dear Neighbor alongside the other films that are part of Videoarde a critical history of videoart in Latin America, curated by Laura Baigorri. The screenings will take place at Instituto Cervantes de Atenas, 20-22 May.

The public art installation "Borettslaget Fuglesko" has been mounted in Lillehammer, Norway. Three pairs of shoe-shaped birdhouses displayed as shoefiti will be part of the urban landscape of the city between May-July.

The art piece is a temporary habitation solution specially designed for the Pied Flycatcher ( Ficedula hypoleuca), a migratory bird that arrives in Norway at late spring, after having travelled from West-Africa.

In December Dear Neighbor was shown at Art Basel-Miami 2010. The 'Centro Cultural Español en Miami' screened Videoarde, an ambitious compilation of video-art from Latin America and where Dear Neighbor is included.

Screensaver a software intervention/video-art will be part of 'Simulacros en Directo' curated by Edgar Endres. The exhibition will open January 27, and until March 4 at The World Bank, Washington DC, USA.

At the moment, 'Ruta de la Luna' is the main project as it'll be my debut in a feature film as Production Designer. Dear Neighbor will be screened at Maysles Cinemas, New York. The film is part of HOMEWARD: A Screening Series Exploring the Concept of Home. Curated by Denisse Andrade. The series will take place May 20 and 21, 2010.

"Hanging Gardens" that was previously show at ROM for Kunst og Arkitektur and Oslo Bymuseet as separated chapters, it is being shown as a whole at "Endring og Stillstand" an exhibition dealing with the use of gardens in contemporary art and curated by Siv Hofsvang. The exhibition will be open until june 13, 2010 at Galleri F-15, Alby Gård, Moss, Norway.

February was mainly devoted to the production design of 'Caught', a 25 min. short film shoot in studio and location.

March took me to Quito, Ecuador, to start working as production designer for 'Holiday', a feature film to be completed by 2011.

April 17 opens my first participation on the field of arts for year 2010 at Galleri F-15, Alby Gård, Moss, Norway. "Hanging Gardens" that was previously show at ROM for Kunst og Arkitektur and Oslo Bymuseet as separated chapters, will be shown as a whole at "Endring og Stillstand" an exhibition curated by Siv Hofsvang dealing with the use of gardens in contemporary art.

Hanging Gardens will show my latest film "The Mammoth and the Bee" together with photo, texts and seedpackages specially brought from Medellin, Colombia.

Galleri 15 is one of the oldest and ranks among the most important contemporary art galleries in Norway.

'The Mammoth and the Bee' is on screening in Berlin, Germany at Palais am Festungsgraben, as part of Østlandsutstillingen 2009. The exhibition will be open from 29.11.2009 til 03.01.2010

The art project 'Alheli/Gyldenlak' was granted with economical support from Vederlagsfond from the Norwegian Visual Arts Association (NBK)

'Alheli/Gyldenlak' will take place between August 2010 and August 2011. This project deals with the placement of gardens made out of non-native plants that arrived to Norway by commercial ships that used ballast water as method to balance the weight on their cargo.

On previous centuries, water was taken up at sea by cargo ships and released in port, becoming a major source of exotic wildlife. Some species adapted to the environment and survived, as it is the case of many plants that were regarded as aliens and nowadays are part of the Norwegian landscape, as in the case of Pineapple weed (Chamomilla suaveolens), Viper's Bugloss (Echium vulgare), Sticky Groundsel (Senecio viscosus) or Aegean wallflower (Cheiranthus cheiri) among others.

'Alheli/Gyldenlak' is the third and final chapter of the ‘Emerging Landscapes’ (2004-2011)
whose first chapter was ‘Polkagrishuset’ (2004-2005) an in situ installation and it’s video ‘Dear Neighbor’ (2006) with a solo exhibition at Christianssands Kunstforeningen (2007). Second chapter was ‘Hanging Gardens’ and its ‘Babylon Heights’ exhibition at ROM for Kunst og Arkitektur (February-April 2008) and the video 'The Mammoth and the Bee' presented at Oslo Bymuseum (April 2008-April 2009).

"Borettslaget fuglesko" has been chosen by Kunstnersenter i Oppland as part of the public art project Kunstgjødsel.

The proposal is to build birdhouses using shoefiti. This is an universal urban element that can be found in Norway too, but that hasn't yet shown a widespread at the county of Oppland, where the project will take place in the period 2010-2011.

Birdhouses will be build in wood, to give shelter to migratory birds during the spring and summer seasons.

The picture shows a prototype. The design and the locations will be developed and defined in months to come.

8-9 September Dear Neighbor was screened at 16th Festival Latinoamericano de Video, Rosario. Argentina. The short film is part of videoarde touring exhibition.

Short film Screensaver was part of Abandon Normal Devices Festival (AND) Liverpool, UK. 23-27 September, in collaboration with ISIS Arts

By mid October I will be participating in a documentary course by Gunilla G. Bresky The course is arranged by Nord Norsk Film Senter (NNFS) in Tromsø, and the support of Østnorsk Filmsenter

Alongside other seven directors, I'll be presenting my documentary project "Drive-thru", that was shoot last summer and it is about to be edited. There will be a second gathering towards the end of November.

15 August opens Østlandsutstillingen at Studio Stag/Arena Vestfossen, 'The Mammoth and the Bee' my latest film released until today, is part of the exhibition.

'Dear Neighbor' was presented CCCB - Centre De Cultura Contemporanea De Barcelona as part of a special screening of 5th Ibero-American Biennal Inquieta Imagen, where 'Dear Neighbor' won a main prize.

"Between the two Infinities" a short documentary produced by VGIK and directed by Thomas Fossgård, Production Designer by Christian Bermudez won Audience Award, under a special program, at 7th Baltic Debuts Film Festival in Svetlogorsk, Kaliningrad, Russia.

As part of my stay in Kaliningrad, Russia I performed an urban intervention, using an emblematic building of the city know as "House of the Soviets" More details of the project will be release on a future post.

"Drive-thru" was successfully filmed in North Cape (see previous post) and it is ready to be edited on the following months. The film is a documentary that will be produced and distributed in the period 2009-2010.

June has been focused on the preproduction of "Drive-thru" a multicamera documentary/art installation to be shoot on July's first weekend. This will be my 2009/2010 film release as director/producer.

The project has the collaboration of Zoe Schmederer (photo) and Andreas Lindberg Svensson (sound). It will take place at Nord Cape, Norway. "Drive-thru"is mainly financed by Arts Council Norway and is being supported by The Norwegian Film School.

In the period 12.07-28.07 I'll be part of The 1st International Summer School at Svetlogorsk, Kaliningrad Region, Russia.

The event is organized by Russian State University of Cinematography n.a. S.Gerasimov (VGIK) and it will gather film students from the Baltic Region (Sweden, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Russia, Finland, Poland and Norway)

Dear Neighbor was exhibited at 'The Big M' at the Place Jean Rey, Brussels, Belgium. 20-22 April 2009. Besides, it will be screened at Loop09, Barcelona, 25-31 May, as part of VideoAkt. This is my second participation at Loop (2004 & 2009)

'The Mammoth and the Bee' will be part of Østlandsutstillingen, a regional touring exhibition in the following venues: Galleri Skårer, Lørenskog Kultursenter in May-June and Klevfoss Industrimuseum, Løten in July/August. This is the third participation at this annual exhibition (2006, 2008, 2009)

The official opening will be Saturday 9th, May at Galleri Skårer, Lørenskog, Triaden.

Dear Neighbor was screened at 24 Hours of Nuremberg Film Festival Nuremberg, Germany (November 7-8, 2008) as part of CologneOFF. Another screening of the same film, took place at Centro Cultural Español in Santiago, Chile (November 10, 2008) under Video Expandido-nuevas fronteras del audiovisual en Chile.

'Dear Neighbor' is part of the exhibition "Videoarde- Vídeo crítico en Latinoamérica y Caribe" At Centro Cultural de España en México, opening January 27, 2009.

January 25 closes the group exhibition Apsorption and Resonance -Sound and Meaning at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter. A review was published at Kunstkritikk (only in Norwegian) and Refleks magazine, by NITO (Norges Ingeniør og Teknologorganisasjon). It can be downloaded here. The review at page 7. Picture above shows "Bestiarum Digitalis -the fantastical beasts' zoo-" my most recent piece under exhibition at Henie Onstad Kunstsenter from November, 20th 2008 until January 25, 2009. As part of the main exhibition 'Absorption and Resonance -Sound and Meaning' curated by NOTAM (Norwegian Center for Technology in Music and the Arts)

The piece uses the format of bestiaries, that were used in the Middle Ages as collections of fantastical creatures, to present contemporary issues such as registering of media, digital darwinism, ownership rights, among others. It was published an excellent catalogue (both in English and Norwegian) depicting the history and evolution of sound art in Norway.

In November Bermudez was in charge for the production design of 'Kiss the Frog' a three minute short film that will be release by the end of December 2008. The short film was produced under NFS and shoot in 16mm. Following images document the production at the studio.

Dear Neighbor will be part of the online launching of ColoneOFF IV 'Here We Are' scheduled for December 11, 2008.

October 29th, 2008 opened Østlandsutstillingen's last chapter at Kunsthalle St.Annen, Lübeck, Germany. The exhibition will close January 18th, 2009. Bermudez is part of the show with 'Aquavitt sunrise'

'Dear Neighbor' in Buenos Aires, Argentina and Montevideo, Uruguay.

Laura Baigorri editor of "VIDEO EN LATINOAMERICA. Una historia crítica" travels South America together with her work about Video-Art in Latin America. The book will be presented 4 October at Centro Cultural de España en Buenos Aires alongside a workshop with Graciela Taquini, Gustavo Romano, Andrés Denegri among others.

The book includes a DVD compilation and 'Dear Neighbor' is part of it. The publication has already been shown in Centro Cultural de España en Montevideo in September and it will be launch in Córdoba, Argentina and Santiago, Chile in November 2008.

A series of screenings will be touring Latin America in 2008-2009. More information later.

It is summer her (on the northern hemisphere) so things calm down and I won't be back to Norway before August, when I'll move to Lillehammer and catch up the second year at the Norwegian Film School, where I'll studying production design. 'Hanging Gardens' will open at Oslo By Museum 26.04.2008

Both are solo exhibitions.

Also on 26.04.2008 is the opening for the collective exhibition 'Østlandsutstillingen' where I will be showing 'Aquavit Sunrise' a serie of three photos (one of them above in this post). The exhibition opens at Østfold Kunstnersenter. It will be touring east-Norway and will close at St. Annen Museet in Lubeck, Germany.

I will be part of another exhibition curated by Notam, with 'Bestiarium Digitalis' a sound installation. It opens 15.11.08 at Hennie Onstad, Oslo Norway.

Today Museo de Arte y Diseño Contemporáneo (San José, Costa Rica) opens 5th Ibero-American Biennal 'Inquieta Imagen'. As part of the official selection 'Dear Neighbor' is taking part of the exhibition.
